The SCFRS is now embarking on another ambitious project, namely, to site Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) around Selsey so that no resident is more than 1000 yards away from a PAD. This involves installing secure and heated cabinets containing Automated External Defibrillators at suitable locations throughout the town. Presently there are 2 PADs in Selsey and another one, currently only available for part of the day, will shortly be re-sited in a security cabinet to make it three to which we hope to add 5 more.
Each installation will cost in the region of £1600 and so it is an expensive exercise. However, generously, High House Insurance Services Ltd has agreed to fund the purchase of the first tranche of cabinets and ROSE electrics will install the first two cabinets and maintain the wiring in the longer term. But there is more good news. Manor Park Residents Association has made a very generous donation which means we are well on the way to purchasing the first of our five new defibrillators. The picture shows Kevin Bayley and Pat Read, Chairman and Secretary of the association respectively, presenting a cheque to Liz Watson lead fundraiser for the SCFRS.
Remember, there is no government or NHS funding for your voluntary Responders and we have to look to the firms and residents of Selsey to help us achieve our aim. So, if you would like to sponsor a defibrillator, complete or in part, or make a donation please go to:
You don’t have to be a fireman to use an extinguisher and you don’tneed to be a paramedic to use a Public Access Defibrillator, but more of this next time.
